Emma started her birthday unwrapping a present chosen by Juliana: a Beanie Boo. Lum had a special card. She also received a double DVD pack with twelve Dutch television episodes (Ravelijn). The kids never watch television, so we had to explain how episodes work, but regardless of whether they understood our improvised explanation, they certainly got hooked. We finished the DVD on the weekend.

This year, Emma had a Kung-fu themed sleepover party with four close friends. There was a treasure hunt involving breaking large eggs with Kung-fu kicks to hits, a snack, a Kung-fu panda DVD, a spin-the-tomato-sauce-bottle game to open the presents, dinner with fries and for desert cake with candles, cut by Emma. Before going to bed late, we watched another Kung-fu panda DVD. Pick-up 10am the next day.

Cub scout weekend at Katoomba
In the middle of May, the cub scouts had a weekend away in the Blue Mountains. We stayed at a youth hostel in Katoomba - camping is rather hard on the leaders with this age group. The cubs had fun the first night, the rest of the hostel not so much. In the morning, we set off for a walk to Echo point with the pack and on to the three sisters rocks. Emma had joined cubs at the start of term and thoroughly enjoyed the ride in the train at Scenic World. At the end of the day, we walked back to the yourth hostel and had pizza for dinner. The night was dead quiet. The next day we did a ropes course on the way home - for more pictures, see the scouting group website. Everybody seemed happy.
