Dad and the kids took Paul to the Blue Mountains. The road had been improved since last time, so it was an easy early morning drive in opa and lum's car (opa's Falcon), which Juultje likes a lot as her seat sits in the middle with a wide view to the front. We went to Scenic World, which we so far had skipped as too touristy. But as dad's calf muscle had only just healed and none of the others are too keen on walking, we decided to try out something different. We duly queued up, bought tickets, and took the steepest train in the world down into the valley - any steeper and dad would call it a lift. There we did the longest marked board walk (45 minutes) and admired the dense vegetation on the wet slope. Then we took the cable car back up and took another cable car across a side valley - this one was called a skyway. Indeed, the view was marvellous (note the reflection of the cable car window). We walked to a little viewing point with another great view on mount Solitary, a group picture and solo picture. We took the skyway back and as the queues were too long for another train ride, we drove home.
Paul enjoyed his last week surfing. We dropped him on the airport the next Saturday. After that, life got back into its old routine. On Saturdays, Emma and Piet play a game of footbal. Emma signed up first, but after a few weeks Piet also joined in. He plays with a different team (under nines), but trains with Emma's U8s, as he has Dutch school on Thursday. The competition finished in August, as footbal is a winter sport.
On Wednesdays, Piet has an 8am rehearsal with his training band. All kids play their instruments for the first year. Juliana and Piet played with some blocks. Father's day started with breakfast in bed, which he had been able to choose. Piet had had the idea long in advance that dad was to choose from a large menu what he wanted to eat during the day - poor mum (a bit of coordination of the choices with dad and some help from Piet notwithstanding). We went to the new swimming pool and had a brief play with dad's new frisbee on the beach.
