On 6th August, Jan's counsin Jan's son Paul, a keen surfer, arrived from Utrecht for a two week stay with us in Manly. The whole family quickly warmed to him. Once, Juliana even cried when he left for a surf (but settled for some crosswords in the end). Paul played with Emma and read Piet his Grote Kleine Kapitein boek.
The first weekend, he was still too jet-lagged to do much. We just made it to North Head, where we showed Paul the entrance to the harbour with a magnificent view on the ocean.
During the week, he visited the maritime museum with Jan. During the weekend we showed him Palm beach - where none of us had been either - for a play in the water, spotting a pod of dolphins swimming up and down the beach and having fries. The last week was taken up by lots more surfing, visits to the CBD and preparing for the pending return.
