enjoy Emma Piet

We got back the creative work from Piet and Emma from the last school year and gave some works of art a prominent place. They still enjoy helping mum bake pizzas. Juliana continues to explore the wall sockets. She has also discovered the joy of standing on our desk chair.

movie night

Piet turns seven
Piet's big present this year was a new bike - we just need to change it to a smaller size. He was also delighted with the other presents, mostly lego. As this was a special occasion, the kids were allowed to watch a movie after school and Dutch school - so coming home at half six - and have Piet's birthday dinner of pizza, fries and noodles at the same time.

Two days later on Saturday we had Piet's party on the surf beach of Queenscliff nearby. Eight friends came over for free play in the first hour, some fruit, a treasure hunt - too long, unfortunately - the traditional cake, yummie as always, and other food. Some friends stayed a bit longer and we had some more fun in the waves. The Australian Open, meanwhile, was taking place a few hundered meters to the south. We are talking surfing.

stumpy tail sunflower

At school, Emma retold the aboriginal story explaining why koala has a stumpy tail. If you cannot read her detailed account, the moral of the story is that koala was lazy and tree kangaroo pulled his long tail off. Piet has been resistant about Dutch school for over a year. We don't understand what turns him off, but it cannot be learning languages in itself, as he is still interested in counting in French, for example. His phonetic spelling is pretty close (or perfect if you allow for his father's accent). At Dutch school, Piet proudly showed a picture of the sunflower he had grown at home from a seed given at school.

outside

Juliana had a bath outside. Piet explained to her how the shapes go back in the box. With Max, a friend from Piet's Kinder class we went to a westhead beach in a national park.
