Juliana enjoyed sitting on the sofa with her big brother, who was reading a book. But he prefers to be read to. After a big tidy-up, Piet and Emma rediscovered the joy of little Lego.
Rolling
At the end of May, the whole family caught a cold. Piet was first. He missed a day and a half of school - a rare occurence. Next was Emma, who missed a day, her first, but she's only been in school for five months. Juliana had the sniffles throughout this episode. She was coughing a lot at night and wanted to be
carried more often. But she still had a healthy appetite for her solids, like
pumpkin (with milk). She has been rolling onto her tummy for two weeks now. It allows her to explore the toys on her mat and seems to keep her entertained. For the last two days she has also been able to roll back onto her back.
Piet made ice lollies with water, a spoolful of sugar and water, put overnight in the freezer. The next day, he had to put the cup in front of the heater to get the ice lolly out. The family made a funny picture for Bento's birthday.
We are impressed with how much the kids learn at school, although it makes parenting a lot harder. Once, Piet was looking for a word he had learned at school. He was working on a piece of paper and it wasn't "matrix". He got quickly frustrated, so mum suggested he ask his teacher. The next day, he knew the word: it was tessellation. Which explained why mum couldn't guess it. A few days later, Piet had this conversation with mum:
We got the school photos of
Emma and
her class and
Piet and
his class. Piet was matured a bit since
last year's photos.
Six months old
Juliana is six months old and has finally got rid of her cold. She spends more and more time
on her tummy, but it is still rare that she rolls back herself. Solids are being enjoyed.
The world cup has started, which meant waking up at 5am to see the match against Spain, being gradually joined by the rest of the family. Piet and Emma got passionate about the game and were quite disappointed about the match against Chile - dad wasn't bothered too much. The other Holland group games will be at 2am...
Grannybunts came over to helps us out with the preparations for the move. While she spends most of her time on Juliana, Piet and Emma enjoyed her reading too. On Saturday, they went with the ferry (and a bus, a taxi and back with a train and a fast ferry, a long story) to the natural history museum in the CBD, with fries as lunch. It was a full day out.
