Pietje - maart 2009

playground balls

The first week of March, my dad was off. Originally, my parents had planned to spend the previous week in Rome, but that proved too ambitious with me just getting used to my creche routine and mum recovering from a nasty cough. Hence we engaged in various activities in and around London. We started with a nice contemplation playground, with a swing and a very exciting slide. After play, I relaxed hanging on a little wall.

At home, I keep exploring new things, like climbing on any ledge I can get my feet on, while there is enough time left for the usual lunch, sitting on mum's lap and hanging around the sofa with dad.

On Tuesday, we went to a indoor playarea with loads of plastic balls: being burried in them made me smile. But I can have my contemplative moments too. On Thursday, Vivian visited us with her parents for tea and Sam and Benji came over for dinner.

beach huts

On Friday, we went off to the cute little village of Whitstable on the north Kent coast on the Thames estuary. My parents had rented a cottage or, more precisely, a double townhouse with a massive kitchen, an interesting lounge and a huge flight of stairs - no fear from my side. However, the main attraction was the nice weather and the beach at 300m. We walked past some beach huts, stood in the wind and tasted some pebbles, exchange the better ones with dad and taste some more. I behaved while lunching out and was okay with the change of sleeping arrangements. On the way back to London we visited the Chatham dockyards, which are famous for the visit by Michiel de Ruyter in 1667. I was happy being carried in the rugsack across the dockyard, through the museum and on to a period sailing boat. Note these pictures are also on facebook.

sunnies Pen

The next week, aunt Pen came over to play with me on the terrace, help me step off the terrace or watch me step onto the terrace by myself. She joined us to the city farm, where we watch some goats - very scary when they come too close - and enjoyed even more sun - we had an exceptionally sunny March.

At home, I had my lesser moments, but had good fun with mum's friend Karen and even when getting my nappy changed.

The last weekend of March, oma Bep came to visit us. We spent a lot of time together, either playing or just sitting on her lap. [Last updated 19-Apr-2009.]
