February started off rather special: London received a big pack of snow. It began snowing on Sunday night when daddy was playing football on an ever more slippery outdoor pitch and continued into Monday morning. Central London received about 15 cm. Despite my receding cold, I was allowed outside for a quick snap before dad went to work. During the day, we went to the supermarket in my pram and stopped at a snowy post box. It was the quietest day ever in our flat, as all buses stayed in their depot that day. I was happy watching the pedestrians struggling on the snowy pavement instead. As the mayor of London said: it was the right kind of snow, but the wrong quantity. Little snow was left at the end of the day.
The main event of the week for me was still my first birthday on Thursday. Oma Bep had arrived the day before. Together, we unwrapped the presents. I played with them all, but in the end, reading my favourite book "The very hungry caterpillar" with oma was still best. In the evening, aunty Pen came over to join us for my birthday cake, which I really enjoyed, and a toast.
During the rest of the week, we visited the Hoekema family and I further developped my walking skills.
At home, I often happily play on my own, sitting on my bum or playing with toys like my wooden train. But we do our outings, for example on the sunday after my birthday we celebrated all birthdays of the antenatal class kids with all mums together. We shared our cake and played with my friend Luke's cube and scooter. Back home, I played very happily with grandma, until mummy took the camera out, as than I would be distracted. This picture of me and grandma playing with gnome world is an exception.
On her birthday, my mother got a new camera (a Canon EOS 1000D SLR). Maybe you can tell the difference with the old compact digital camera. For example, this is my portrait. The next day, she shot some pictures at Somerset House, an old mansion on the Thames with an impressionist gallery, with me in my pram or watching traffic at the terrace at the back of the house. Of course dad had a go in the end as well, shooting mummy, or myself playing with my click-clack-track, one of my birthday presents, or friend Christoph coming over for dinner.
On Wednesday 18th February, I went for my first official morning to my Hopes and Dreams creche. I am attending two mornings a week to give mummy some rest. Normally, daddy drops me off (which makes me cry) and mummy collects me.
The next Saturday, it was gorgeous weather and we managed to do a walk from Sauderton to West Wycombe and back. After the walk, I had a wander around our terrace and repotted some plants.
