On Thursday, oma drove Piet and Emma back to Sydney from their sleepover, which had involved a lot of reading. Aunty Bell joined on Friday, so mum and dad could go on their first weekend away without the kids since ... a long time. The occasion was their 10th wedding anniversary.

We had rented a cabin just north of the Blue Mountains with a georgous terrace overlooking Wollemi national park. We did a walk in the valley of the Grose river the next day, following a track made by the cabin's owner's grandfather Charlie Hungerford to drive his cattle to a lease he had in the valley.

Blue Mountains revisited
creek hammock Later in January we returned to the Blue Mountains with the kids for three nights camping, this time further south and west. Piet and Emma (and sometimes Juultje) spent all their time in the creek that ran next to the campsite. See the picture in:

The weekend prior to Australia day, we camped with three other families at the Freemans campground in Munmora State Park. Each family had a child in Piet's Kinder class (the first year of primary school, equivalent to 'groep 2' in the Netherlands). The first night was very wet, while blue bottle jelly fish and dangerous surf made swimming hard the subsequent days, but it was a lovely campsite and we quickly booked a small campsite nearby for next year. We were too busy for pictures.
