Camping in Sydney
The first weekend in November we went camping. This weekend had been identified long in advance as the last opportunity to camp in a while, but all national parks around Sydney, which offer the best camping grounds, were closed: some because of fires and the others because of fire danger. Some other camping grounds we tried were booked out, not surprisingly, so we ended up in Lane Cove, a national park inside Sydney. We drove through rush hour traffic on Friday, while some friends joined us on Saturday.
The camping site was actually not bad. Unlike the typical camping ground in a national parks it had a playground next to our spot and also a swimming pool. This came in handy on the very hot weekend, although the water was rather cold. After a brief swim on pappa's back, most time was spent around the pool. Overall, the kids had a great time. We had pancakes for breakfast, did a decent (90 minutes) walk in the national park without mum, packed up and had another refreshing swim, before a swift 40 minutes drive home.
Piet sent his parents his second email, which made their heart melt. Dad is just a little worried that the email is too polite for a five year old - hopefully his teacher has helped him out.
Piet played the xylophone and Emma a keyboard. Piet's classmate Phoebe came over for a one-night sleepover. Due to the warmer weather, it is headlice season. Emma picked them up at pre-school, probably twice, and passed them on to mum. The boys are blessed with short hair (so far).
