Emma made a few paintings. She may either fill the whole page with colour (which no longer ends up brown) or leave some white spaces. Piet's creativity has taken big steps too. In this drawing, he has written is name and age, drawn his platypus, himself with a platypus and in six text balloons he has written:
with even some drawings inside the balloons depicting the phrase (unbeknown to his father, it is encouraged at school to make a little drawing for each phrase you write). We are impressed. As you can see, he tries to phonetically spell words that they have not had at school. Until such time, we do not need to correct him. Congratulations if you got the 'nature' and 'learning'.
In the weekend, we went grocery shopping together, Mum normally does this in the evening on her own, sometimes during school hours with Emma, but hardly ever with Piet and dad. As long as the trolley is not too full, Piet and Emma can both ride in it.
The kids played picnic in the front yard with their fluffy toys. Mum and dad got invited too. As Piet goes to school five days a week (9am-3pm) and Emma only goes to pre-school two days a week (same times), she has to play without Piet three days a week. She actually copes very well. One day she happily studied the latest share prices, while another day Katy and Sarah came over for a play. The three got on so well together that mum got a lot done.
Cattai
The last weekend in August, we went camping with friends in the nearby Cattai national park. The
old camper trailer was comfortable and the weather was sunny (technically, the last day of winter, but 26 degrees during the day and 7 degrees at night). With the kids in mind we had selected a campsite with a
fireplace. They helped us arrange the newspaper and kindling,
strike a match and
toast the marshmallows. Emma had brought
beertje Bert, a soft toy from Dutch school. Each week, one child is allowed to take it home and the idea is that they tell about their adventures with him the next week.
In the morning, we lit the fire again, only to provide some warmth and entertainment. We played in the nearby bushes, were we saw many rather tame kangeroos - we could approach them up to five meters - and in the play ground. After some colouring and lunch, we packed up and went home.
