Piet's school organised a beach carnival at the local harbour beach. It consisted of many games/challenges: water on your head, relay, crawl and cheer. Mum helped out with many other mums and (some) dads. Emma had her first haircut. When dad came home from work, we met him at the busstop.

sandpit Easter hats

On the Wednesday before Easter, Piet's school had their traditional Easter hat parade. All classes participate: the older classes do folk dancing, while the younger classes hop around the schoolyard to the tune of a bunny song. Parents and grandparents are invited to watch; seats are arranged. Piet and Emma were proud of the hats they had made with mum and Piet happily participated. Before their performance, all kinder classes waited in the shadow of a tree.

For the Easter weekend we had meant to go camping in the Blue Mountains. However, dad's cold deteriorated and he had to take antibiotics. Mum took the kids to the zoo and on the way back, hit the car in front of her. Just a small dent in that car, but a slightly bigger in ours, so we were left without a car for the rest of the weekend. Piet was highly disappointed not to go camping. However, he had been focussed for weeks on the Easter egg hunt and was quite happy to do it in our back garden after a long wait in the morning for Emma and mum to wake up. We probably did not hide the eggs well enough, as in no time the kids had found all eggs except the ones on the slide. Piet and Emma were allowed to eat as much chocolate as they liked. Piet managed to eat his whole Bilby. The eggs were shared over the next days. It was nice to spend a few days at home without school. Piet and Emma rediscovered the sandpit. We went to the surfbeach with our boogie board.

sunrise hoera

Katy came over for a play and already had fun with Emma on a wall on the way from school. On an early morning walk, mum enjoys the sunrise with the rest of the crowd on the beach.

On Friday, we celebrated pappa's birthday. In the morning, we unwrapped the presents. The kids had been rather secretive about the mail the last week: "don't look in that cupboard, pappa!", and pappa discovered there were books from Amazon and Europe. Mum and dad had a wedding in the afternoon, so the kids baked a cake with grannybunts. On Saturday morning, mum helped them put the icing on, so we could eat our cake in the afternoon after singing lang zal hij leven. A popular present was an old fashioned Dutch boardgame ganzenbord.

Bendoc
scare crow opa sandpit scary face The next morning, all except dad went to Bendoc, where the kids were keen to play in the sandpit with opa. As the holidays last two and a half weeks, we packed the sight words in order to keep up Piet's reading skills. In the meantime, Emma can recognize quite a few words as well. Piet and Emma helped make a scare crow out of hay with an angry face and mounted it in the veggie patch.

Mum went to pick up pappa from Canberra and returned the next day. We met them at a historic property north of Bombala. We had a look inside the house - about a century old - and at the old cars and engines displayed outside. Then we had a picnic in the garden.

On Saturday, we visted mum's old primary school. At the buses, Emma took a picture of us. Then we went up mount Delegate (by car, for lack of time), were Piet and Emma found some 'Aboriginal rocks', which they took home. Piet and Emma enjoyed the autumn leaves.

head interest pat his belly

Horses
As the horses will likely be moved, it was Emma's last chance to pat them. She is happy to walk up to Abbey and pat his belly and if he shows some interest, also his head.

P.S. Due to daylight saving changes, the time difference with Europe has decreased by two hours.
