oma's sandwich open fire

Oma's last week
last walk open fire Returning from Bendoc and Canberra, oma had just over a week left in Australia. In this week, spending time with the grandchildren was obviously the top priority. As always, Emma was keen on oma's sandwich during breakfast. Piet was keen on reading with oma. Oma taught him to neatly align his picture tiles. Piet went another five odd times to the city farm with oma, which has become a sort of tradition: Piet and oma also went very often during our stay in Eindhoven in September 2009. On some occasions, Piet and Emma even agreed to share their playtime with oma.

In order to make oma's Australia experience complete, we also had a barbeque or rather a sausage sizzle on one of the remaining sunny days. These became exceptions and we lit the open fire nearly every nights. Piet helped out by putting the paper in the grate and adding kindling. On Saturday 5th June, we went for our last walk with the kids around the neighbourhoud and dropped oma off at the airport for a flight that went smoothly.

Oma Leonie arrived for a stay a few days after oma Bep left. Emma and Piet happily made the switch, receiving a late breakfast, playing with playdough or watching a Dutch-language DVD - poor oma. DVDs have become so popular with Piet and bath time so unpopular, that we now watch a DVD after bath. Dutch-language DVD However, this creates another problem if Piet asks for a DVD in the middle of the day; if you reply "after your bath", he will insist on taking his bath straightaway. He is becoming quite street smart. After bath, he does not get a drink until bedtime, so he will now ask to be put to bed, give everyone a kiss, pocket his bottles and change his mind about going to bed. But on the other hand, he plays very nicely with Emma, for example getting her to hold the back of his vest and walking around the room with her, see

During the last few weeks, daddy has been putting mulch on the garden beds to keep the weeds out. Piet enjoys either helping dad with his own spade and wheelbarrow, moving dirt and mulch around as he sees fit, or simply playing in the mulch or dirt. One day, he showed oma how he tips his truck, got oma to load more dirt into his truck and then showed oma how he tips it out again.

Like oma Bep, oma Leonie has also taken the kids to the community farm. Piet enjoyed baking bread, including testing the bread, and reading a Panorama book with oma. Nearly every night, we watched a DVD and lit the open fire. Oma and mum took us to the Melbourne zoo. Piet was fascinated by all animals, most of which he can name in English or Dutch, including the zebras and giraffes, while Emma enjoys such outings very much as well.

daffodils corn on the cob

In the last week of the month, we ate some corn on the cob. Piet made a cotton bud painting at nursery. Emma is finally settling in at the nursery after she started going two days a week. In the garden, daffodils kept flowering.
